Congratulations go out to LynnAnn Ierna on her successful completion of the Leadership Fort Lauderdale Program las evening. This was an accomplishment that LynnAnn can certainly be proud of and the recognition associated with this achievement is well deserved! Many hours of hard work were involved in completing this program, especially recognizing her full-time responsibilities with the Midgard Management. Those of us in the audience cheering for LynnAnn were: John Brandt, Bea Reynolds, Howard Lustgarten (LynnAnn's husband) and I, who thoroughly enjoyed the presentation of certificates to 29 graduates; Carolyn Michaels and Irma Kawski did an awesome job!
Plans are in the works to have our current scholarship recipients, along with the Alumni, accompanied by Carolyn and Erma attend one of meetings in June.
Our program for Friday, May 22nd will be Attorney Debbie Slater who will speak on preventing elder exploitation/abuse.
You may think of elder abuse as physical violence or sexual abuse, but it is more than that. Violations of the elder's rights may also include emotional and verbal abuse, neglect, threats, financial fraud, or even invasion of privacy.
We all can take a big step in combating elder abuse by learning to recognize what forms it may take and when it occurs. Although elder abuse is an emotional and difficult issue, you need to stay informed for the sake of your elderly loved one.
Attorney Slater will alerts us to situations involving elderly that could be cause for concern: Physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, neglect and financial exploitation.
Four Way Test:
Of the things we think, say or do:
1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3. Will it build GOOD WILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
