Jim Goldstein Speaks At NAIOP's "Conversation With" Event

One thing we now know about Jim Goldstein, CEO and Director of Midgard Management, is that his true love is "really messy, nasty deals".

This was just one of the insights Jim recently shared in an intimate interview led by Marty Busekrus of CBRE, through NAIOP South Florida Chapter's "Conversation With..." series.

Jim grew up in Miami Beach and attended University of Miami's pre-med program. He attended medical school in France, but eventually got his first taste for dirt working at his father's nursery and landscaping business in Miami. But, ultimately, it was his father-in-law, Irving Miller, land developer and older brother of Lennar's Leonard Miller, that had the most influence on Jim's career.

NAIOP's conversation with Jim revealed his key to success - good partnerships. "The best deal with the wrong partner is far worse than the worst deal with the best partner," said Jim. "Great partners will always bring you more deals." And Jim's philosophy has paid off - he's worked with the same partners for 30 years.

Longevity is a concept that Jim embraces, in his professional and personal lives. "Sustainability is about making things last," said Jim. Midgard's initial interested in LEED was primarily marketing and tenant driven, but his perspective quickly changed "It's about long-term, balance, equilibrium."

For Jim, sustainability is also synonymous with family, and he should know. Jim is a father of five - 4 sons and a daughter. "It's about surrounding yourself in a nurturing, positive environment."

And with Jim Goldstein's continued involvement in the South Florida commercial real estate industry, we'll continue to be nurtured as well.
