July 1, 2009 Ft. Lauderdale, FL - Midgard Management hosted The Realities of Managing Green which provided case study and assessment of the LEED process to the real estate community.
Don Donahue from Natural Capital Group moderated the panel discussion that included a LEED consultant, Property Manager, Broker, and Attorney offering perspective from their experiences in eco-friendly management. A diverse group with an interest in green management received the true nuts and bolts of the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification process.
The presentation included advice about managing expectations, communication with prospective and current tenants, costs and return on investments. One of the topics addressed was the side benefit of opening dialogue with tenants, employees, and vendors. The experience allows the management team to develop the type of relationship that attracts and keeps tenants.
Panel members included Missy Tancredi, LEEP AP and Vice President of Eco Advisors, LLC, an environmental consulting firm; Tony Cho, President of Metro 1 Properties, a brokerage firm based in Miami; Lynn Ann Ierna, CAM Director of Property Management for Midgard Management in Ft. Lauderdale; and Paul D'Arelli, Attorney with Greenberg Traurig that specializes in Commercial Real Estate.
Cindy Baldwin was overheard saying this was the most useful presentation she had attended in the last year. Ms. Baldwin is a Principal at ACAI and a LEED AP. She added, "the panel was very well informed and a good cross-section of interests."
Bunnie Willis, an experienced Property Manager from Crimson Services said she knew the basics involved with the greening process, however, she was able to get a better understanding of costs and timeframes.
Midgard Management sponsored the seminar and is planning a series of educational forums with related topics. For more information, contact Lynn Ann Ierna at email@example.com
